Big Island of Hawai‘i

“Great experience.” - as reviewed on Tripadvisor.com

Who we are...

Pahala Plantation House hosts international coffee tastings, regional agricultural and health meetings and many native Hawaiian language and cultural retreats. It is also the scene of local and destination weddings, family and school reunions and music workshops. The Plantation House is available for your family and group stay on the Big Island of Hawai‘i.

Pahala Plantation House and cottages are a restored sugar mansion and houses in a quiet town between Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park and Punalu’u Black Sand Beach. These dwellings of yesteryear were once homes for sugar plantation workers and managers, as well as teachers at the local school until 1996 when Ka‘u Sugar Co. gave way to new agriculture.

Since the shutdown local residents have fixed up the town and created a post-plantation economy of small businesses. Coffee, flower and vegetable farms, macadamia orchards, and free range cattle, horse and goat ranches surround the village just seven minutes from the shoreline.

Our staff at the Pahala Plantation Cottages welcome you and your guests to visit Ka‘u and enjoy rural life found only in Hawai‘i.
